Safety Helmets - A Shield for Your Head

Head injuries are a common phenomenon in many industrial working environments such as mining, construction and many more related jobs. These injuries take place when a flying heavy object falls on the head of the worker or his head strikes a fixed object. These risks cannot be avoided much at work and it is at this time that the need to use PPE rises. Safety helmets are that category of PPE that ensure the safety and minimize the risk of head injuries at work. The type of safety helmet chosen depends on the specific nature of the activity at hand. Talking about the general functions of the safety helmets, they should:
1.    Protect against penetration by sharp objects.
2.    Absorb the shock and the blow of the falling object.
3.    Should be resistant to water.
4.    Come with a instruction manual explaining to the worker about the proper functioning of the PPE.
High Performance Industrial Safety Helmets:
Regular industrial safety helmets are effective in the areas where the risk of head injury is not very high but when the work requires the physical presence of workers at high risk areas such as construction sites and mining areas, these regular safety helmets cease to be effective. Therefore, in such areas, it becomes very important for the workers to wear high performance industrial safety helmets. These helmets have all the general features of regular safety helmets except for the fact that high performance industrial safety helmets are designed for taking higher blows which means that they provide a suitable degree of protection required at work. Some of the characteristics of high performance industrial safety helmets are:
•    They provide the same level of shock absorption as in the case of regular industrial safety helmets but with just double the impact as compared to them.
•    They protect the head against vertical impacts that is the impact on the highest point of the shell and also from lateral impacts that is the impact from the front, back and sides.
•    Against the impact of penetration by sharp objects, they provide an increased level of protection.
The shell, harness and the headband are those parts of the safety helmets that increase the shock absorption properties of these helmets. The addition of protective padding to the high performance industrial safety helmets help these helmets to tolerate the blows coming from the sides. This protective padding absorbs the energy from the lateral blows and so the force transmitted to the user’s head is minimized thus decreasing the risk of head injury. It must be kept in mind that in the places where the risk of injuries cannot be avoided, it is a smart way to wear safety helmets in order to minimize the risk. Today, many business marketing companies offer the option of buying online safety helmets. One should buy safety helmets in order to be safe and function well at the workplace. Online safety helmets extend their services and provide safety and comfort to the worker at the same time.
